Just like that it’s time to celebrate and say goodbye to our Class of 2024! It seems like just yesterday that they were joining us at Kailash Home, and now they’re on the verge of taking flight as accomplished, independent young adults. We can’t wait to follow along in their next big steps, and we hope they know that Kailash will always be their home.
Mangal, Kailash Class of 2018, is one of four brothers (pictured below with his brother Mingmar, also a Kailash graduate) and came to Kailash at a young age. He has since gone on to pursue a university degree and has aspirations to one day complete a graduate degree as well. He has stayed connected to Kailash since graduation through the Kailash Alumni group, and in his free time he enjoys creating artwork, mobile gaming, hiking, trekking, watching movies, and playing various sports like football, basketball, running, and mountain biking.
Family is the beating heart of Kailash Home, and the foundation that allows our children to flourish and succeed not only at every stage of their time with us, but also as they go out into their young adult lives. Seeing the intersection of these different factions of our wider Kailash family is an incredibly gratifying marker of success, and recently, we’ve been thrilled to witness a whole new era of Kailash Alumni involvement!
Have you ever had an experience, a moment in your life, when it seemed like the world shifted around you and suddenly your perspective was entirely changed? Moments like these are magical and happen rarely, unless that is, you happen to be the proverbial fly on the wall at Kailash Home. At Kailash, these moments happen regularly.
It’s always an exciting time of year when we welcome a new class of children to Kailash. They don’t know it yet, but their lives have just shifted forever. Our new children arrive on campus unsure and curious, but within a few days they begin to acclimate and open up as the other Kailash Kids welcome them into the family. It’s a wonderful thing to witness — and after 20 years, we can attest that it never gets old.
It’s been a busy summer, and whether it found you enjoying time at home or jet-setting far and wide, we hope you’ve enjoyed this season. Things have been bustling for our Kailash Kids and staff over in Nepal as well! Over recent months, we’ve seen the completion of several longtime projects on campus including new property fencing, an updated playground area, refreshed roofing on our girls dormitory building, improved drainage infrastructure, and more.
To know, to really understand life at Kailash Home is to live in her sounds.

My name is Jayang Wangdue Gurung. I hail from a tiny, isolated village in the Tibetan border regions of Dolpa, a district in the north Western region of Nepal that lacks broad access to schools, health services, and modern transportation. Like many other children, Kailash became the only real home I’d ever known. Today I write to you to share a little piece of my journey and just how important MHF and Kailash Home have been in my life.
Following two years of tumult, our Kailash Kids back in regular in-person classes, and we are happy to see them are hard at work in their studies. Education has always been one of our main objectives, and we remain committed to supporting our Kailash Kids at every level from primary school, to secondary education, to vocational colleges and traditional universities. We know that this investment and focus has the potential to set each and every child on the path to lifelong success.
After such a strong finish to our 2021 fundraising year, we are still feeling wonderfully overwhelmed by the generosity of our community, and we wanted to take an opportunity to update you on exactly what we’ve already been able to do with those funds.
Kids. The day to day love and care of our children falls to another part of our extended, global family though, and today we’d like to take a moment to introduce you to some of them.
Each year a new group of children arrive on campus and take their very first steps as Kailash Kids. What they cannot appreciate in that moment as five and six year olds is just how impactful both Kailash and the MHF community will be in the rest of their young lives.
Chances are if you walked into your kitchen right now you could find a variety of fresh, healthy foods. For people in Nepal, including our Kailash Kids, things aren’t always quite so simple.
Excellent news from Nepal! Our senior students (all those 18+) as well as the staff at Kailash Home received their COVID vaccinations last month.
Over the past few months, even as developed nations around the world push to vaccinate large swaths of their populations against COVID-19 and return to a semblance of normal, countries like Nepal have been gripped by a resurgence of the pandemic. But, not all of the news coming from Nepal is so grim! Our Kailash Kids are thriving and staying busy in this new lockdown.
