Welcome to the Kailash Home Foundation, dedicated for over 20 years to supporting the most vulnerable children of the Himalayas.

The Kailash Home Foundation

The Kailash Home Foundation is a non-profit, non-religious, non-political, private foundation formed by mountaineers in solidarity with the children of the mountains of Nepal, Pakistan, Tibet, India and Bhutan. We believe that basic education is the best guarantee to generate economic, social, cultural and political progress in this area.

Our funds are used to finance the development of projects related to the elementary education of boys and girls in the Himalayas.

We apply these funds to concrete, lasting, immediately effective and transparent projects, working preferably with local collaborators, who are the best connoisseurs of the peculiarities of the area, in order to guarantee that our action will respect the customs, culture as much as possible and the habits of each population, which we do not want to violate in any way.

The trustees visit them regularly and act as verifiers of the actions.

Our fund is supported by an initial contribution of 100,000 Euros, as well as private contributions from both companies and individuals.

What we do?

“We are happy because we are content. We are content because we are happy.”

Home to 100 children between the ages of six and twenty, Kailash Home is the project of the Kailash Home Foundation in Nepal. Daily operations at Kailash Home are overseen by the Himalayan Children’s Foundation (HCF), our counterpart in Nepal. When they arrive at Kailash Home, all children are greeted by both professional caregivers and the other students who already live there. At Kailash, these children are able to recreate the family nucleus that they may have lost or may never have had. All children at Kailash Home receive traditional and cultural education, as well as adequate nutrition and health care, and opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities and outings. Each child is individually sponsored by an international sponsor who often forms a deep bond that in most cases is lifelong.

The Campus

Located just over eleven kilometers on the outskirts of the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, Kailash Home consists of two buildings dedicated to the dormitories of boys and girls, an administrative building, a third building with the library and study rooms, and a final space where the kitchen, dining area, study rooms for older children, and music classrooms are located. Surrounded by a central courtyard, gardens, a playground, and a football field, the iconic buildings with red roofs form the home that is Kailash Home.

Education

In collaboration with private schools in Kathmandu, all boys and girls at Kailash, from elementary school to high school, receive a complete traditional education. Daily schooling also allows our children to establish friendships and bonds with their peers outside of Kailash Home. A growing number of Kailash alumni are pursuing higher education through university programs and trade schools both regionally and worldwide.

Cultural Heritage

Through extracurricular activities that emphasize traditional arts and our annual home visits program, FKH strives to connect each and every child with their village, community, and culture. We firmly believe that the children of Kailash Home should take pride in their culture and heritage, and in turn, will also be the best ambassadors of their communities in the future.

Health and Nutrition

For many children in Nepal and other developing countries, the lack of adequate nutrition can be a significant barrier to growth and success. All the boys and girls at Kailash not only receive balanced meals, but they also have access to quality medical care. Through guest speakers and educational seminars, the staff at Kailash Home also provide invaluable assistance, empowering children to make healthy choices even beyond the confines of Kailash.
